To the TF North Community:

Spring is in the air and the school year is rapidly passing, with Spring Break (April 2 -11, 2010) less than a month away. Parent-Teacher Conferences were held on February 25, 2010. If you were unable to attend and would like to pick up your child’s report card, you may stop by the main office, with proof of identification and request the report card. We encourage parents to continue to use the Power School link to monitor academics and attendance for your child.

Sylvan tutoring is in progress. The School Improvement Committee is gearing up for Career Day on March 10, 2010. A variety of speakers will share their career paths with students. Students will have the opportunity to hear first hand from people in several careers and ask questions to receive insight on what goals they need to set for themselves.

Qualified junior students will take the PSAE (Prairie State Achievement Exam) on Wednesday, April 28, and Thursday, April 29, 2010. Please note that this is a correction from the school calendar that you received earlier this school year. This test will consist of the ACT with writing on day one and state developed assessments on day two. Students will be dismissed following testing on each day. NEW this year: Seniors who did not take the PSAE last year, MUST take the test this year in order to receive a high school diploma. YES, a student may earn required credits and still not receive his diploma, if he does not participate in the PSAE. This is the LAW. Please make sure that your child is present for BOTH days of testing.

Students enrolled in Advance Placement (AP) Courses and who have paid for their exam(s) will take AP Exams in early May. Senior exams are Wednesday, May 19, 2010 (periods 5 – 8) and Thursday, May 20, 2010 (periods 1 – 4). Seniors will be released after fourth period. The senior class sponsors have worked hard to prepare Senior Week activities. If your child is interested in participating he/she must complete the necessary paperwork and pay the appropriate funds for those activities.

Graduation will be held on May 28, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. (SHARP). Please make arrangements to arrive on time. The doors will close at 5:55 p.m. Every person, including infants, attending the ceremony must have a ticket. Tickets will be issued to graduates during graduation practice on Thursday, May 27th. In order to participate in the ceremony, the graduate MUST be at graduation practice on time and remain present for the duration of the practice. The students will also receive their cap and gown order. All obligations, including financial, must be cleared prior to graduation practice.

Underclassmen examinations will be conducted May 26 – 27, 2010. Please visit the district website for more information at www.tfd215.org . School ends for underclassmen on May 28, 2010.

Sincerely,

Dwayne E. Evans, Principal
